Obituary of Myrl C. Lingo
Myrl C. Lingo, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Myrl was born on August 17, 1921, in Anderson County, Kansas, the son of Leo Milby Lingo and Alta Ruthana (Gordon) Lingo. He attended the Lingo Grade School and then attended the Garnett High School. On December 5, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theatre during World War II. He was severely injured in the Battle of the Bulge, near Aachen, Germany, he received the Purple Heart. While recuperating from his injuries Myrl designed the house that he would later build in 1949. This is the home that his parents lived in until 1976 and his brother lives in to this day. He was honorably discharged from the Army on October 24, 1945.
Following his time in the service he returned to Garnett to live with his family. He was united in marriage to Leatricia Jane Hurley on July 31, 1966 in Garnett, Kansas. Myrl was a farmer and loved his work. After retiring from farming he continued to raise a tremendous garden and spent many hours mowing his property. One of Myrl's greatest joys was fishing in his pond behind his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Leo Raborn; and one brother, Ralph Lingo.
Myrl is survived by two brothers, Charles Lingo of Garnett, Kansas; Claron Lingo and wife Mary Lou of Plattsburg, Missouri; one sister, Ruthana Keith and husband Don of Garnett, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Bill Hurley and wife, Colleen, of Metairie, Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Dorthy Lingo, of Liberty, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews, Scott Lingo and wife Ramona, Martin Lingo, Peggy Koch and husband Greg, Nancy Lingo, David Lingo and wife Lori, Sam Lingo and wife Kelly, Suzie Thomas and husband Chuck, and Mark Keith and wife Kara; several great nieces, nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday afternoon. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
