Obituary of Kenneth W. Knight

Kenneth Wayne Knight, age 82, of Centerville, Kansas, died on October 22, 2010 at the Anderson County Long Term Care Facility in Garnett, Kansas. He was born June 1, 1928, in Centerville, Kansas, the son of Harry Austin Knight and Minnie Belle (Kline) Knight. Kenneth graduated from Parker High School and worked part-time for the railroad. He went to Idaho where he worked in construction and spent one winter in the lumber mills near Coquille, Oregon. Kenneth returned to Centerville in 1950. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served basic training at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; he then was transferred to Ft. Benning, Georgia where he attended expert rifleman schooling, and instructed others on proper use of guns. He attained the rank of Army Corporal and was discharged in 1953. Kenneth spent his life farming the Knight homestead and surrounding acreage East of Centerville. He was a 50-year Farmer Stockman. His passion was fishing, hunting and also spent hours looking for arrowheads. He had a keen sense of humor and wrote several poems reflecting that humor. He will be greatly missed by friends and family. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Minnie Knight; ; three brothers, Willard Knight, Coquille, Oregon, Wendell Knight, killed in action during WWII in Italy; and Harold Knight, Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters, Frances Knight of Centerville, Kansas, and Enid Dial of Houstonia, Missouri; a niece, Sheila Price; and his companion of many years, Georgia Moore on May 31, 2010. He is survived by three sisters, Thelma Price of Parkville, Missouri; Carol Maurine Marker of Moran, Kansas; Carolyn Kuder and husband Mike of Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Warren Knight and wife Erma of Gardner, Kansas; Roger Knight and wife Fern of Centerville; Kansas; nineteen nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion's children, Larry Moore of Oklahoma and Nancy Whiteman of Louisiana. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, with burial to follow at Centerville Cemetery, Centerville, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Centerville Nutrition Site.
