Obituary of Alberta Ann Jeffery
Alberta Ann Jeffery, 82, of Iola, Kansas died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Alberta was born August 15, 1934 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She grew up in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1952. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree. Alberta was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi, Epsilon Pi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Commerce Student Council.
In September of 1959, Alberta Married Jack E. Jeffery. They were married in the 1st Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK. They lived in Tulsa, OK for a brief time before moving to Iola, KS.
Alberta started working for the Law Office of Apt & Apt in 1960. Alberta was the secretary for the Bowlus Fine Arts Center. Alberta was on the board for the Winslow Scholarship Committee and was the Secretary/Treasurer for them up until the time of her death.
Alberta and Jack co-founded the Allen County Arts Council in 1965 which is now known as the Iola Community Theater. Alberta and Jack owned Cindy's Flower Shop until 1974 and later they had a gift shop and a catering business.
Alberta was a member of the 1st Christian Church. She also directed the 1st Christian Youth Service Choir for a period of time.
Alberta enjoyed performing and working with Community Theater. Her love for books was unbelievable; you rarely saw her without a book in her hand. Alberta was an accomplished pianist. Family was the most important thing to Alberta and she loved them all unconditionally.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Jeffery of 51 years and her parents Albert and Freda (Perry) Borum.
Alberta leaves behind her daughter Cindy Kress and husband Larry of LaHarpe, her brother Fred Borum and wife Sammie of Texarkana, TX, a nephew Doug Borum, niece Parkie Soule and a great niece Kelsie Cigianero.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the 1st Christian Church in Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening at 1st Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the 1st Christian Church of Iola.
