I am so sad to see the passing of Richard. Although I did not know him, I felt that I knew his spirit through the many years of working with Shirley. She discussed with me his many experiences and it was clear to anyone, that Shirley cherished their union and was so very proud of Richard. I hope the great times you had with him, helps you in this difficult time. Stay strong Shirley. You have many people thinking and praying for you and Dean.

Shirley and Dean -
I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. He was a very nice man - way too nice to have been a civil litigator. Unfortunately, our paths did not cross many times since his leaving Sherman Taff & Bangert.
My prayers are with both of you at this difficult time.

In honor of Richard, I say with my whole heart & soul that he gave me so much courage, wisdom, and strength in a nation full of difficulties and despair. He taught me to not only understand our Constitution but to respect it and the Founding Fathers who put their lives on the line for it. He constantly reminded me that we weren't in the trenches of the liberty battlefield for ourselves nor to support ANY politician but, rather, because it is our DUTY to God to do so. I remember him teaching me and so many about how our nation is in the mess it is in because it is our fault and most who are trying to do the right things never humble themselves in that manner. Richard drilled it into my head that the rightful remedy to restore our Republic is for the states to "interpose" not nullify the Constitution and he gave specific reasons as to why this is our DUTY...not only to the Republic...but that it was our DUTY to God. He quoted the Bible many times and referred to St. Paul's reminder of how it is our DUTY to interpose whenever oppressive bodies try to trample on us.
On this day of mourning for our loss of Richard, as sad as I am...I take great pride in knowing the things he taught me and in realizing that he is granted so many special graces from God because of the way he fought for what was right and just.
I co-founded 'Defend Not Amend' with Richard and he fought the battle to save our Constitution right up to the end. We both know that if we finally let them take our Constitution, we have very tough times to face. Richard and I didn't always agree but we always learned from each other and had the greatest respect for each others efforts.
I will miss my dear friend more than most realize and my deepest respects go out to Dean and Shirley for the huge loss that they are suffering. I will never forget Richard's sense of humor which always got us through the worst times and, as he used to say, "embrace the suck."
Richard's legacy will live on in the liberty movement and we will all carry on as he would demand that we do, burning the torch he gave to us.
May he Rest in Peace and May God's Perpetual Light Shine Upon Us.
This Irish Prayer will always remind me of Richard's optimism and light:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Much love,
Judy Spady

My deepest sympathy to Shirley, Dean and Richard's family. Richard was a great Patriot and friend. He was always supportive of me, and when I had breast cancer-he even helped out at my house. I worked with him on many projects and always learned a lot from him. He will be deeply missed by many in Kansas and around the country.

I have not known many who were as committed to advancing conservative/libertarian causes as Richard. His dogged determination to advance the cause of liberty and his clarity on Constitutional issues was unmatched! I will miss our many email exchanges. I was proud to stand with him in the fight for freedom and justice.
I send my deepest sympathy to Shirley and Dean. May God grant you comfort and peace.
To Richard,

I am so sorry to know of Richard's passing. I happened to call his phone just moments after his accident and was taken back when someone else answered his phone and said that he was badly hurt and was being taken to the hospital. He was a good friend and a great inspiration. We shared many ideas and became very good friends since we met about 5 years ago. He will be greatly missed. May God rest his soul.
