Obituary of Michael L Pickert

Mike Pickert, age 60, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, formerly of Lawrence, Kansas, husband of Rita (Praught) Pickert, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Kenneth and Sally (Gilstrap) Pickert. Mike enjoyed many activities in the great outdoors, offshore saltwater fishing on the boat he loved, covering the waters of the Jersey shore and freshwater Walleye fishing in the State of Minnesota with his band of friends from college. He also enjoyed bird hunting and gathering for golf with his many Pennsylvania friends. Being with friends to laugh and enjoy their company was the common thread linking all these activities. "Pick" as he was known by his friends, was a man of much deeper character, never taking himself too seriously, always generous to those around him and never complaining about his difficult journey. He had insight into the well-being of relationships with those around him and he had no problem listening and being a sounding board to his many friends. The best news for those who loved Pic the most is that he trusted Jesus Christ for his salvation, so that in the midst of loss there is also abundant joy. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Pickert and his brother-in-law, Roger Wellman. He is survived by his wife Rita of 20 years; mother, Sally Pickert; sister, Diane Wellman of St. Charles, Missouri; nephew, Samuel Wellman; and niece Jessica Zielinski and husband Mark. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, burial following in St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to: Disabled American Vets (DAV) or Wounded Warriors, P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
