Obituary of Les Rockers
Les Rockers, age 88, of Garnett, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Residential Living Center,
Garnett, Kansas.
Leslie J. Rockers was born on the family farm west of Garnett on July 21, 1928. He was the third of seven children born to Arthur B. and Hilda Katherine (Feuerborn) Rockers. Les lived most of his life on the family farm where he was born. He attended grade school at Junction School. On August 10, 1954 he married Clara Hansen at St. Patrick's Church, Chanute, Kansas. They were blessed with eight children, Annette, Roger, Russell, Ralph, Janice and triplet daughters, Lucille, Lisa and Leslea.
Les was a lifelong farmer, farming with his brother, Merle, as Double R Farms. After his sons, Russell and Roger assumed the operation Les kept active helping them on the farm for several years. Les was a Hoegemeyer Seed dealer for many years. They also operated a custom silage cutting operation for several years, cutting silage throughout the central United States. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Knights of Columbus Council #1362 of Garnett, US Custom Harvesters and the National Farmers Organization. Les served on numerous boards throughout his life including the Anderson County Fair Board, the original Rural Water District #4 board, and the St. Boniface Cemetery Committee. Les enjoyed his years playing baseball with the Garnett Town Team and bowling in the Wednesday night bowling league. He loved to fish and when he decided he didn't need to catch anything he took his kids. Les also loved bird hunting and shooting skeet. He was an avid Royals fan and enjoyed a cold Hamms beer while listening to the game. Les particularly enjoyed visiting and spending time with his family and friends.
Les was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill; and his sister, Edith Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara of the home; children, Annette Harrison of Overland Park, Kansas, Roger Rockers and wife, Norma of Garnett, Russell Rockers and wife, Beth, of Garnett, Ralph Rockers and Mary Wolterman of Garnett, Janice Chatham and husband, Mike of Radford, Virginia, Lucille Stone and husband, Damon of Garnett, Lisa Rossman and husband, David of Ottawa, Kansas, Leslea Rockers and Mike Hermreck of Garnett, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Rockers and wife, Helen of Garnett; sisters, Colleen Gregory and husband, Bob of Osawatomie, Kansas, Lavon Mariz and husband, Carl of Irvine, California, and Joella Rockers of Garnett; sister-in-law, Virginia Rockers of Columbus, Kansas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the Rosary at 6:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the church.
