Well, Uncle Loyd, as you can imagine your departure has set things spinning down here. Plans are being made and folks are arranging their schedules to be part of the gatherings this weekend. While not quite with military precision, folks across the country are thinking of you and Billie and preparing to travel.
I'm sure there will be hot pie and cold pie, and enough food to "feed a regiment" as Grandpa Burt would say.
I remember a clear night at the Gorrell farm at Centerville long ago when you reached out of your car window and gave each of us standing on the big rock that served as our front step a shiny silver dollar. Mom was really proud of them, as we all were, and to keep peace she put our names on each of ours using adhesive tape.
A couple of years later, the one saying "Milly" on it was used to buy your sister Ruth a pair of pink flower ear rings from JC Penney. I guess everything worked out fine: mom liked the ear rings and I'm left with a nice memory for her Mother's Day that year.
We all healed after losing so many others in the family, but we are going to miss you.
Milly Prothe
