Obituary of Geraldine Marie Bain

Geraldine "Gerry" Marie Bain, 81 of Iola passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas. Geraldine was born in Neosho Falls, Kansas on September 29, 1935 to George F. and Alma E. (England) Fox the third of four children. She grew up in the Iola and Gas area and graduated from Iola High School in the class of 1953. She married Donald W. Bain in Iola on November 8, 1953. They moved around several locations in Alabama, Texas and Missouri due to Don's military service, and eventually settled back in Iola. She was a longtime member of The First Presbyterian Church in Iola. She enjoyed singing in the choir and with Vespers, and serving her fellow members on the Session and as a Deacon. She enjoyed raising vegetables and admiring her flowerbeds, and was a dedicated fan at various sporting events watching her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her regular gatherings with "The Coffee Girls." Survivors include her husband Don of the home, her children, Jeryl L. Crane and husband Craig of Lawrence, KS, Donald W. Bain, Jr. and wife Lynda of Lawrence, KS, Jannette D. Sigg and husband Daniel of Iola and Jenise C. Wade and husband Mark of Iola; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a sister Patricia Conine of Olathe, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents and her sisters Wanda Judah of Pittsburg, KS and Joanne Valentine of Eureka, KS. Services will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at The First Presbyterian Church in Iola. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., with her funeral service immediately following at 10:30. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at Iola. Contributions in memory of Gerry may be made to The First Presbyterian Church and left with the funeral home.
