Obituary of Dorothy Fern Holloman

Dorothy F. Holloman, age 81, of Centerville, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. Dorothy was born on April 16, 1929, at Cadmus, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Addie (Carpenter) Barkley. She graduated from Parker High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Roy Holloman on December 26, 1947, at Paola, Kansas. This union was blessed with six children. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1988. They made their home in the Centerville area. Dorothy was a member of the Centerville Community Church. After Roy passed away Dorothy began caring for the children of Lee and Beth Wilson at their home. She later cared for Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Conley in their home. She then worked at the Centerville Nutrition Site. Dorothy was a people person and loved visits from her family and friends. They would usually include a game of cards. She enjoyed canning and cooking and loved to attend her grandchildren's activities. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Addie Barkley; one son, Christopher Lee Holloman in 1972, at the age of 4; two brothers, Harry and Leon Barkley; and two sisters, Anna Gowing and Ruth Williams. Dorothy is survived by one son, Melvin Holloman and wife, Penny, of Centerville, Kansas; four daughters, Cheryl Butler and husband, Richard, of Paola, Kansas; Nancy Hurt and husband, Larry, of Troy, Illinois; Carolyn Kirk and husband, Jim, of Paola, Kansas; Sharon Sandberg and husband, Jerry, of Paola, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Chapel, Garnett. Interment will follow in the Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday evening at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Hospital.
