To the family of Dennis Hastert, I am so sorry and am thinking and praying for all of his family and friends. I remember Dennis from my Dad's farm machinery business. He was a great guy and I always enjoyed waiting on him and Mr. Thompson for parts! True farmers who loved their profession! I know you will miss him so much.

Michelle and I want to offer our deepest condolences to the family. The world was a better place because of Uncle Den. He always had a smile, a great sense of humor, and funny stories to tell as only he could. He lived life in such a way as to spread joy to those around him. I was blessed to be around him often, as my uncle, my dad’s 50 year farming partner, and even my Godfather. His legacy lives on in his children as they all have that wonderful sense of humor and joy.
My favorite story he told was his story of the goat and dog teaming up to steal his sandwich while he was eating his lunch in the pickup at the north field.
We deeply regret that we will not be able to join you for Den’s funeral tomorrow. We will join you in prayer, remembrance, and in spirit.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Ed and Michelle Thompson,
Colorado Springs, CO

To all the family we want to extend our sympathies. Denny was a very nice neighbor. He always had that smile while he was riding the tractor. And he loved to be apart of all the farming.
He raised a wonderful bunch of kids. He was such an influence on all of you. Joyce you should be so proud.
I am glad that God did not make him suffer and he went quickly.
Prayers

Dear Joyce and all Hastert Families, My heart breaks for you in this loss. We are so sorry to lose another bright light on our Family Tree. Dennis always seemed so full of joy and happiness. He enjoyed adding sunshine to every day. His good ways of approaching life are valuable lessons that all admired. He had such a unique way of always wanting to add just a little humor to lighten any situation, and could manage it in such a positive way. He was a strong and caring man who has left a beautiful influence on the lives of his family and many friends, and he will be missed and remembered.

As a younger cousin of Dennis he was someone I looked up to and always admired his ability to live life to the maximum without any complaints of being shortchanged. Working hard, playing hard, a sense of humor, family man, these are my words to describe cousin Den. Our prayers and thoughts are with Joyce and the family.

We have lost a great man who has made a big impact on more people than he could ever have imagined. I always remember my Uncle Den with a smile on his face and something humorous to say. The world always seemed right when you were lucky enough to encounter him anywhere he was sipping coffee or another chosen beverage. My heart breaks for all of his family at this time of loss.

Uncle Den always had a smile and chuckle. He loved to tease and he didn't mind being teased. I have a drink with fish swizzle stick story I'll never forget. He is dealing cards in heaven as we speak.
God's strength for the family as you move forward and keep his smile in your heart.

Dear Hastert Cousins,
With sincere sympathy to each of you and yours upon the passing of Dennis.
Dennis was always one of those older cousins who seemed happy, strong, determined, good looking, and full of life's positive spirit. I never heard a cross word from Dennis and it seemed to me that he finished most sentences with a self-assured chuckle. I know along with others of the older cousins he was a source of strength and delight to my parents and their generation too. I know he knew every bass and catfish hole in Anderson county and several up toward Osawatomie. I remember what a splendid couple he and Joyce were when I'd see them at church and family functions around Garnett or Greeley. He was one of several important role models I emulated from that slightly older generation.
I'd love to swap fish stories or play a game of seven point pitch one more time with Dennis. He will be missed.
