There are a few teachers that leave an impact and fond memories as you get older. Peggy Tholen was one of them. I had her in several math classes and home rooms. She was always cheery and quick to laugh. She was an excellent math teacher, showing its practical every day uses. She will be remembered fondly.

I was saddened to learn of Peggy's passing and I reflected back on our time together, in the late 1970's and early 80's as teachers at Garnett High School. I got to know her when we shared the same plan times. She had a great spirit and outlook that was contagious. One year she and two other teachers asked me to teach them how to play the guitar. So, one day a week the three of them would come to my classroom after school and we had a group guitar lesson. After I left GHS, I learned Peggy continued to play the guitar and did so at church. I was glad to know that.
She has touched many lives and will always be remembered for it.

Dear Kyle,
I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I have enjoyed all the stories you have shared with me at work about her activities and her life, and how much she relished her role as grandmother to your kids. I know you have shared in her struggles over the last years, but I could always see how happy you looked every time you mentioned you were going for a visit to spend time with her. She sounds like an awesome person and mentor, I'm sure she will be terribly missed. My sincere condolences to your entire family on losing such a wonderful person in your lives. I will give you a big hug when I see you again at work.

I will never forget how enthusiastic Mrs. Tholen was about her love of teaching and the enthusiasm she brought each day. I also remember her classroom was next to my dad's at GHS so I have known her since I was very young. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with her family during this difficult time. She was a very special lady and will be missed by all who knew her.

What an amazing teacher and mentor to so many of us that were fortunate enough to have her. She was one of everyone's favorite and when I think back to my high school days I cannot help but remember the smile on 3rd floor waiting for you when you walked into her room.
My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

It was my privilege to teach with Peggy Tholen at GHS during the seventies. From the beginning, she had that special 'something' that separates the good teachers from the great ones. I always enjoyed working with Peggy and am so sorry to learn of her passing. she was a special person.
