Obituary of Rose Marie Stokes

Rose Marie "Rosie" Stokes, 80, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Rose was born March 10, 1936, in rural Kincaid, Kansas, the daughter of Cecil George and Alice Evelyn (Nigus) Turner. She grew up at Colony and married Allen R. Stokes on December 24, 1952. They always made their home in Iola. Rose was a homemaker and served as a scout leader while raising her family. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, cross stitch and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Allen preceded her in death November 25, 2012. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Dale Stokes & wife, Helen of Kathleen, GA; 3 daughters, Debra & husband Dennis Cooper of LaHarpe, Diana & husband Craig Collins of Longview, WA and Denise & husband Craig Mentzer of Neosho Falls; 2 siblings, Bill Beasley & wife, Barb of LaHarpe and Edna Green of Desoto, KS; 13 grandchildren, Marc Sonka, Abigail Sonka, James DePriest, Chelsey Cooper, Nathan Mentzer, Miles Mentzer, Amanda Godsey, Lissa Manbeck, Jason Collins, Ryan Collins, Zachary Collins, Jason Reed and Josh Reed, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, great grandchild Drake Bunnel and 6 silbings, Harold, Jack & Larry Turner, Carol VanDam, Ron Beasley and Darlene Kaal. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Dec. 26, 2016 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Dec. 27, 2016, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery.
