Obituary of Vernon H. Garner, Jr.
Vernon was born April 24, 1928, in Iola, the son of Vernon H. "Bus" and Gladys Lorraine (Williams) Garner. He grew up in Iola along with two brothers, Ronald Garner and Richard Garner, both now deceased, and two sisters, Phyllis Bass of Leavenworth, KS and Janice Lane of Everest, KS.
On December 25, 1949, Vernon married Emma Kathleen "Ducky" Newman in Ft. Scott, Kansas. To this union, three children were born, Linda, Phillip "Lynn" and Vernon.
Red had worked for LeHigh Portland Cement Company in Iola, and then was a welder for Williams Pipeline in Welda, Kansas. He was a member of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, the Gold Square Masonic Lodge #70, served on the City of Iola Zoning Committee and had been a volunteer police officer.
His life with us was ended on Saturday, November 19, 2016.
He leaves to mourn, his daughter, Linda Young & husband, James of Kansas City, KS; two grandsons, James Young, Jr. & wife, Kimberly of St. Louis, MO and Jared "Bear" Young of Kansas City, KS; his two sisters and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his two sons and his two brothers.
Visitation will be 7:00-8:00 p.m., Fri., Nov. 25, 2016, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Sat., Nov. 26, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Ward Chapel A.M.E.
