Obituary of Dale Lynn Walters
Dale Lynn "Smiley" Walters, 68, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at his home.
Dale was born June 8, 1948, in Iola, the son of Herman and Ramona (Reno) Walters. He grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force June 1, 1966 and served in Vietnam as an Air Policeman. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent March 6, 1970.
He returned to Iola taking over his father's roofing company operating it as Dale Walter's Roofing. He later worked as a truck driver and at P C Boards in Chanute for many years.
His memberships include Iola Elks, American Legion, 40 Et 8, V.F.W., Mirza Temple Shrine, and Iola Optimists.
Survivors include his companion, Margaret Robb of Iola; children Dale Lynn Walters, Jr. & wife, Mary of Gladstone, MO, Cheri Irvin & husband, Jarrod of Yelm, WA, Michael Gillespie of Yates Center, KS, and Eric Walters of Iola; 2 siblings, Darrell Walters of Humboldt and Diana Baker & husband, Carl of Iola; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Deloris "Dee" Atzbach and brother Quinten Walters.
Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at Bible Fellowship Church, 329 S. First, Iola, Kansas. Inurnment will be in the American Legion Lot in Highland Cemetery in Iola, at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Wounded Warriors Project.
