Obituary of Glenn C. Stanley

Glenn C. Stanley, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Golden Heights in Garnett, Kansas. He was born on December 30, 1924, on the family homestead, east of Garnett, the son of Herb and Vina (Cleveland) Stanley. Glenn graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1942. Glenn married Doris Ann Wells in 1953 and this union was blessed with one son, Wayne. They later divorced. He married Joy (Brown) Benefiel in 1974, joining the family were Joy's three daughters, Joyce, Gayle and Betty. After graduation, he worked on the homestead, then hauled milk for Pet Company in Iola, Kansas. Glenn began working at Garnett Church Furniture Factory for many years. In 1976, Glenn began doing carpentry work, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed working in his garden and flowers, sharing both with friends in Garnett. He was known for his roses and African Violets. Glenn and Joy spent many evenings dancing and playing cards with friends and family. They also enjoyed traveling to Branson sightseeing the fall foliage. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joy Stanley; two brothers, Harold and Claron Stanley; three sisters, Juanita Fischer, Thelma Bell, and Erma Bell. Glenn is survived by his two sons, Wayne Stanley and wife Glenda of Garnett, Doug Davis and wife Teresa of Georgia; three daughters, Joyce Hastert and husband Dennis of Greeley, Kansas, Gayle Larson and husband Donald of Seattle, Washington, Betty Martin of Topeka, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; many great and great- great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2016 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett with Graveside services following at 2:00 p.m. at the Garnett Cemetery.
