Obituary of Herman Owen Hill
Herman O. Hill, age 73, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on July 24, 2010 at his home.
Herman was born on August 10, 1936 in rural Anderson County, Kansas, the son of Frank Ebberly and Eva Elizabeth (Bindel) Hill. He attended rural schools in Anderson County, graduating from Welda High School with the Class of 1954.
He worked for local ranchers until his induction into the United States Army in April of 1959. He was stationed in Michigan until discharged in January 1961. Herman then went back to work for local ranchers until he married Lonna Lorraine (Moore) Hill on December 1, 1962 in Westphalia, Kansas. They moved to Colony for two years until moving to Greeley, Kansas.
Herman owned and operated Hill's Garage since 1965, retiring in 2008. He drove school busses for Anderson County for over 42 years, was the Fire Chief for the Greeley Fire Department for 20 years. Herman served on St. John's School Board, Parish Council, and Greeley City Council.
He loved to attend youth activities, loved reading, gardening, and cutting wood. Herman was very family oriented, enjoying his grandsons, and finally his great granddaughter.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Eva Hill; his wife, Lonna Hill on September 5, 1999; three brothers, Charles Hill, LeRoy Hill, and Elmer Hill; three sisters, Helen Hill, Agnes Sutton, and Norma McDonald.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Hill of Greeley, Kansas; Shirley Hill of Edgerton, Kansas; and Sue Page and husband Mike of Parker, Kansas; one sister, Alice Climer of Baldwin City, Kansas; two brothers, Albert Hill and wife Angela of Winterset, Iowa and Ivan Hill and wife Cecilia of Welda, Kansas; three grandsons, Zachary Hill of Greeley, Kansas; Chad Page and Jesse Page, both of Parker, Kansas; one great granddaughter, Rylee Grace Hill of Greeley, Kansas; and numerous family members.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at St. John's Catholic Church, burial to follow in the St. John's Cemetery. Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church with visitation to follow at the St. John's Hall.
