Obituary of George Earl Croan

George Earl Croan, age 72, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Anderson County Long Term Care Facility, Garnett, Kansas. He was born on December 25, 1937 in Centerville, Kansas, the son of George Franklin and Mae Amanda (Cass) Croan. George graduated from the Kincaid High School in Kincaid, Kansas, and served in the United States Air Force from February 1957 to April 1957. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force because his father became ill, being the only male in the family, he came back home to take care of him. George married Irene Lyons on December 23, 1961 in Osawatomie, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children. For a number of years, George was employed by the Osawatomie Railroad yards, at Concrete Material Construction Company, he then worked for Garnett Church Furniture Factory an took an early retirement due to health reasons. George loved to fish, hunt, golf, play baseball and rode in rodeos in his younger days. He was a member of the Association of Bowhunters, coached little league for a number of years, and loved to follow the Chiefs, KU basketball, and played on the Garnett Lakers. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae Croan; one son, George Ellis Croan; one infant brother, John Charles Croan; and one infant sister, Earlene Croan. George is survived by his wife Irene Croan, of the home; a daughter, Lorita Jean Smith and husband Kelly of Omaha, Nebraska; a son, Dennis Wayne Croan and wife Patricia Ann of Garnett, Kansas; a daughter, Wynona Lynn Baum and husband Jeff of Chanute, Kansas; two sisters, Beverly King of Humboldt, Kansas; and Nellane Stussie and husband Gary of Lawrence, Kansas; Ten grandchildren, Amanda Perkins and husband Zach, Brandon Smith, Alex Croan, George Croan II, Kyle Croan, Jacob Croan, Megan Croan, Caleb Croan, Justin Baum, and Kaitlyn Baum; and One great granddaughter, Selah Joy Perkins; and a host of nieces and nephews and many family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Burial to follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends on Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the George Croan Memorial Fund.
