Obituary of Blanche L. Weatherbie

Blanche Weatherbie, age 94 of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on June 16, 1915, at Lexington, Missouri, the daughter of Walter Irven and Allie Rae (West) Farrar. She grew up in Franklin County, Kansas, graduating from Sac Creek grade school. Blanche was united in marriage to Frank E. Weatherbie on August 19, 1933, at Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1964. She was a homemaker, also working through the years as a cook at Central Heights School, at the sewing factory, Mode O' Day, and Pro Fit Caps. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Garnett. Blanche enjoyed sewing, playing cards, planting flowers and playing the piano at dances, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Blanche was also preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Allie Farrar; two brothers, Hubert R. Farrar and Dallas N. Farrar; and two daughters, Dorothy Johnston in 1977 and Jane Clark in 1997; two grandsons, Kenny Weatherbie and Jared Miller. She is survived by her son, Ron Weatherbie and wife Jo of Princeton, Kansas; three daughters, Alice Wheeler and husband Bill of Garnett, Kansas; Hazel Phillips of Paola, Kansas; Jo Diane Sommer and husband Bill of Greeley, Kansas; one sister, Thelma Monroe of Garnett, Kansas; 29 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and her companion Jerry Dixon; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Lane Cemetery, Lane, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas.
