Obituary of Verba Newsome
Verba L. Newsome, 74, of Colony, Kansas, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at the University Of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Verba was born April 19, 1935 in Allen County, Kansas, the daughter of George W. and Dannie J. (Gregg) Wilson, Sr. She grew up in Gas City and was married to Johnnie Trester. They lived in Allen County a number of years before they were divorced.
Verba married Leo Wells and began her education to become a nurse in Pratt, Kansas. She became a registered nurse and they moved to Arkansas City where she worked in nursing homes. They later divorced.
Verba married Leo Newsome and they made their home in Odessa, Texas. After their divorce, she moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where she worked with Home Health. In March of 2009, she moved to Colony to live with family.
Verba enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts.

3 Brothers: Clifford Wilson of Ft. Scott, KS, Gary Wilson of Benton, KS and Jim Wilson of Wichita, KS
3 Sisters: Shirley Marr of Blanchard, OK, Martha Conley of Colony, KS and Darlene Burton of Gas, KS
19 Grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, "Buck" Wilson, George Wilson, Jr., Bob Wilson and Gregg Wilson, and by 2 sisters, Clodene Parker and Bonnie Hutton.
VISITATION & SERVICE: Family and friends will gather at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, to leave for graveside services to be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Gas City Cemetery.
Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
