I remember during the summer when Fr. Norbert would be home visiting (?) and as children, we would go visit him. After he became a priest, my parents had him to dinner and asked him to bless our home. We had recently had a fire and Dad was positive we should have the house blessed to prevent more problems! I also remember something about Dad (Bernie Ohmes) helping raise money to give Fr. Norbert a car. He will be missed.

Dear Family Members, We are keeping Father and all of you in our prayers. He had been our pastor here in Topeka at Christ the King church. Our daughter, Christina, had played the organ sometimes at Mass. She is currently finishing her music studies at UMKC. Father would inquire about her progress in his letters to us. His Christmas letter this year was the first one we received. He mostly spoke of his family in it showing how important all of you were to him. I know he will be looking down on all of us with love.

To the family and friends of Fr. Lickteig,
For many of us in the Topeka community and across Kansas, Father Norbert will be most fondly remembered for his many faithful contributions beyond the local parishes he served. Father brought his keen understanding of, and deep belief in, his own Roman Catholic faith to numerous efforts to bring unity to a sadly divided Christianity. He also tirelessly sought amity across all of humanity by participating in many interreligious activities. For many years, he served on the Board of Interfaith of Topeka. May the blessings of God be with all those who grieve his death and miss his faithful presence among us.
Joe Hendrixson, President
Interfaith of Topeka

Loeda and Linda,
I was saddened to hear of Fr. Norberts’ passing.
I remember when my parents bought the property west of your folks and we planted a garden there. I went to Fr. Norberts’ First Mass at Holy Angels. Some time later we went out to Emerald ate, played some pitch then had a tour of the rectory and the beautiful Church and rang the bell, just a few times as it was late at night. We went to the rectory and the Church at Waverly for a similar visit. I remember the work he did for so many of the Bowman family reunions. One Memorial Day I was searching for the grave of an ancestor when Father came and told me exactly where it was as he had mowed the cemetery as a young man. I had a visit with him to service his Knights of Columbus insurance in Topeka. When I moved to Ozawkie we went to Mass at Christ the King.
My prayers are with you at this sad time and I pray that God will comfort you.

Loeda, I doubt that you remember me, but I think you probably do, Linda. I'm Jack McQueeney's daughter. As I read Fr. Norbert's obituary I recalled that I was at his first mass at Holy Angels. He has done so much for so many over the years. The diocese has been blessed to have his services. My thoughts are with you both--

Dear Family:
Father Norbert was such an inspiration to so many. He served as an altar boy at my folks wedding (Orville and Evelyn Sobba in 1946). They always had a special place in their hearts for him. He even came to the car looking to speak to my mom at a funeral when she could no longer walk very good. A true servant of God.
My dad (Orville Sobba) and I offer our greatest sympathies.

Angela M. Stiens posted a condolence
I can remember Fr Lickteig when he first came to Sacred Heart here in Shawnee. He was so warm and friendly. He came
to dinner at our house and tried to convince our son to eat salad. When that did not work he would say try and convince him to eat something green whenever he would see us. He was also faithful about sending us a Christmas card every year even after he left Sacred Heart, I believe he even sent us swiss cheese one year.
Another fond memory I have is we had First Communion masses going on and there was no confession avaiable on that Saturday when I tried to go. I had mentioned something to him about it and the next day on a Suday he pulled me aside and I was able to recive the sacrament of confession before mass that day. Fr. Lickteig will be greatly missed. I know the saints and angels were there to greet him. May God's Blessings be upon him, Angela M Stiens and Family
