Obituary of Cassie Damron
Serilda Cassandra "Cassie" Damron, 95, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Moran Manor Nursing Home.
Cassie was born July 7, 1915 in Lebanon, Kansas, the daughter of William and Alice (Bolson) Shephard.
On August 8, 1929, Cassie married Sheriden Damron in Fredonia. They made their home in Toronto. He died February 24, 1947.
In 1954 she moved to Iola and began working at Iola Deluxe Cleaners. In 1958, she moved to LaJunta, Colorado and worked at LaJunta laundry. She moved back to Iola in 1960.
When the Iola Senior Center opened at its original location on Madison St., she was one of the first volunteers. She volunteered until her health failed in June 2004. Cassie attended Board of Director meetings for the SEK-CAP as a representative from the Iola Senior Center and served as president, secretary and treasurer of the local board.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and served on the Wesleyan Church board.

3 Daughters: Betty McDonald of Emporia, KS, Shirley Swift and her husband, Bill White of Williamsburg, Colorado and Sharon Weide and her husband, Les of Iola, Kansas
Over 300 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren also survive.
Her parents, two sons, Leon and Wayne, two daughters, Barbara Damron and Pauline Schwintz, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren preceded her in death.
VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola. The Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
BURIAL: Toronto Cemetery, Toronto, Kansas
MEMORIAL CHOICES: Iola Senior Citizens Center on North State Street or Moran Manor Activities Fund
